The classical glove in vibrant colors. Interesting is also the repetition of the same theme in one window, like the photographer Atget early observed (see below). Atget wanted to capture a Paris that in his time was going to disappear. I hope the classical glove and this style of window dressing will never disappear. In southern city’s you see more often stores for hats and gloves, than for example in northern Europe.
Eugène Atget, Chemiserie, Boulevard de Strasbourg, (French, 1857–1927), 1927. Gelatin silver printing-out-paper print, 8 3/4 x 6 3/4″ (22.2 x 17.1 cm)
Gloves were popular under the surrealists, but never without visual irony. Elsa Schiaparelli and Meret Oppenheim experimented with gloves.
